Founded in 1994, the Hong Kong Journal of Legal Studies (HKJLS) is the oldest student-run academic law journal in Hong Kong. At the heart of its mission, the HKJLS strives to serve as a platform where aspiring legal practitioners and scholars can engage in intellectual discourse on contemporary legal issues.
Each year, the HKJLS aims to deliver diverse insights in fields ranging from doctrinal and jurisprudential analysis of core common law principles to comparative, empirical, and interdisciplinary inquiries into a wide variety of public and private law issues relevant to Hong Kong, Greater China, and the Asia Pacific regions.
The Editorial Board of the HKJLS consists of students from the University of Hong Kong across all years of study. These student editors are responsible for all editorial and organizational decisions regarding the journal’s publication. The review process at HKJLS is designed to provide comprehensive and constructive feedback on the articles selected for publication. This rigorous editorial process offers valuable opportunities for both contributors and student editors to refine their skills in academic research, analysis, and writing.
Throughout the years, the journal has developed a broad readership and established extensive collaborations with esteemed student law journals from leading law schools around the world. Our publications are accessible through Westlaw HK and HeinOnline, and physical copies of the journal can be found in university libraries in Hong Kong as well as in the libraries of the High Court and District Court.
We call for submissions at the beginning of each year. To make a submission, please click here. All articles are selected anonymously and solely based on their merits.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support of the HKJLS and hope that you enjoy the articles published by the HKJLS.
