CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Our Call for Submissions for the 2025 issue (Volume 19) of the Hong Kong Journal of Legal Studies (HKJLS) ends on 15 April 2025 (Monday).

If you wish to submit your paper for the next issue (Volume 20), please email us at hkjls@hku.hk

The HKJLS is the oldest student-run flagship law journal in Hong Kong. Founded in 1994 under the name Hong Kong Student Law Review, we have over the years covered a wide array of topics ranging from substantive law reforms to jurisprudential issues. The Journal aims to serve as a platform upon which law students can contribute to the discussion of controversial legal issues pertaining to Hong Kong or Greater China.

Submissions should be in any field relevant to the laws or legal policies of Hong Kong or Greater China. Articles offering a comparative analysis with regard to other jurisdictions are also welcomed. The Journal aims to achieve diversity in publication and welcomes submissions from students and early-career researchers across the world.

We publish annually in book format. Electronic copies of our Journal articles are available on Westlaw and HeinOnline.

We ask contributors to read the Notes to Contributors before making a submission. In particular, we ask all submissions to comply with the Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA).

We strongly encourage the following submissions:
1. Any articles of the author’s own choice (4,000-8,000 words, excluding footnotes);
2. Case comments (2,000-4,000 words, excluding footnotes);
3. Book reviews (2,000-4,000 words, excluding footnotes); and
4. Comments on bills and recent legislation (2,000-4,000 words, excluding footnotes).

To make your submission, please send the following to hkjls@hku.hk:
(i) the Article in .docx format;
